The Countdown Begins

I hear its been very cold in the northeast these past few days so I hope everyone is keeping warm! Its been in the low 70s for awhile here and it has been pretty nice, but honestly I do miss the cold weather. The grass is always greener right?

Last Monday was pretty uneventful, I used the day to catch up on some things, go grocery shopping, clean up my room, and then I went to my 4 hour class as usual.

Tuesday was infinitely more exciting because it was the Melbourne Cup. The Melbourne Cup is as big a deal as the super bowl in the States, but its like the Kentucky Derby in the sense that its a horse race. Most people work in the morning, and then drink and spend time with co-workers in the office for the races. PwC had a huge event at a convention center where everyone dressed up and had a three course meal and got drunk, but I couldn't go because the tickets were sold out by the time I started working there. Instead, our boss gave us the day off and Emily and I went shopping in the morning, and then met up with friends in the afternoon at a bar and we watched some of the races before coming home and going to sleep early.

Wednesday was also pretty uneventful except I registered for classes for spring semester. I'm taking managerial accounting, statistics, media relations, and introduction to creative writing. It will be an interesting semester to say the least. i structured my schedule so that I have room for an internship as well (or at least a job), so I have been applying to a few different places and hopefully I will find a paid internship, but if not I will most likely get a job.

Thursday morning I got up really early for an interview for a job for next semester and then headed into work early for another assessment center for PwC. After work, we had class again but we got out a little bit early which was really nice.

Friday was a really good day. I ate lunch at work with my coworkers outside in the sun and then after work Emily, Maddie, and I stopped at a restaurant for post-work drinks before heading home. After eating a little bit, we went to the Beresford Hotel which is a beer garden and we met some friends there. We stayed there for a couple of hours and then a few of us headed out for the rest of the night. It was a really fun night and I'm glad I decided to go out instead of staying in.

On Saturday, I went to a brunch at April's apartment with a few other friends as well. The food she made was so good. There were cinnamon rolls and chia seed pudding and smoothies. It was delicious (thank you April if you read this). Then James and I went to the Taronga Zoo for the day. We took the ferry over and then went up in the gondola. It was a really cool zoo because you get off at the top and then make your way back down the hill and see all the animals. We got to see kangaroos, wallabies, and koalas up close and personal. We also saw quokkas and I think that was my favorite exhibit. By the end of the day we were pretty tired from walking around so much. We took the ferry back over to Sydney and then walked around Circular Quay for awhile before heading back to Central and stopping for dinner and then going home.

The next morning I woke up and went to the gym and then when I got back, Emily, Mary Grace, Alex, and I went to the Newtown Festival. I was expecting a small fair type-thing but this was huge. It is basically an annual festival that raises money for the neighborhood. There were tons of people selling a variety of things from soaps that smell like different fruits and veggies, to t-shirts. There were three stages with live music at all times and tons of people everywhere. We ate so much good food while we were there. They also had free popsicles and they were delicious. It was a lot of fun and I'm so glad that we all went. On the way home, Emily and I stopped for some groceries and we just hung out for the rest of the night.

On Monday James and Caroline and I went to the aquarium but that's for another post. It was a fun animal-filled weekend and hopefully my last 3 weekends will be just as much fun. I am officially coming home on December 6th now. Only 22 days and I will be on a plane home. I plan to make the most of what time I have left here and hopefully one day I will get to come back and see some of the places I didn't have the chance to on this trip. Here's to my last 3 weeks down under!
