Rugby & Blue Mountains

This past weekend my roommates and I (& Nicole who essentially lives with us) went to a Roosters (Sydney) vs. Titans (Gold Coast) Rugby game on Saturday. Honestly, I did not watch most of it, but at the end the Roosters made an incredible comeback (Pats Super Bowl style), and it was really exciting. The energy was awesome in the stadium and we had a good time eating fries and drinking cider. It was a beautiful day out and we all had a lot of fun hanging out.

Then on Sunday we went to the Blue Mountains, more specifically Wentworth Falls. The train here is kind of like public transportation in DC because you pay based on how far you travel, but on Sundays, it maxes out at $2.60 AUD so thats all it cost for our 2.5 hour journey. We did get a little lost on the way there and took the wrong train but we still found our way even though we arrived an hour later than we were supposed to. I don't think any of us were really expecting too much because the entrance to the trail was literally a playground but once we made it to the waterfall it was breathtaking. I had this moment of realization where I just felt so small. We decided to go down to the bottom of the falls but we didn't make it all the way down. However, we did make it to the first place where the waterfall hit some rocks and looking up at the falls and seeing the sun shine through the water droplets was beautiful. I think I stood at the bottom for maybe five minutes just staring up at the water and watching it fall.

After we took in the views, we had to go all the way back up the ridiculously steep stairs that I swear were at least 2 feet tall each. We were really sweaty by the time we got to the top but we made it and I counted it as leg day and used it as an excuse to not have to go to the gym today so it all worked out in the end. We finally made it back to the town to catch the bus and got home around 8:00pm making it a 10 hour day but it was well worth it. I still want to go back at some point and see the famous "Three Sisters" but I will probably save that for later on in the semester.
When I got home I tried to force myself to stay awake as long as possible, so I stayed up and watched Mary Grace put away her groceries and we talked a bit. In the middle of our conversation at around 9:30pm, my roommate Emily stumbles out of her room and had clearly just woken up and says "guys....is it morning?" and we just stare at her and tell her its still night time and she says "oh okay, I'm going back to bed" and she turns around and walks back into her room. Afterwards, Mary Grace and I just stared at each other and burst out laughing.
It was definitely an eventful day and I was exhausted by the end of it but I slept so well that night and I will never forget everything that I saw this past weekend. In other news, I did some exciting things today! I started to plan out my travel, and I bought a plane ticket to Cairns (aka The Great Barrier Reef) for the weekend of September 16th and I bought a ticket to Queenstown, New Zealand for my mid-semester break! I am SO excited and I literally wouldn't stop talking about it today (sorry @ everyone I bothered today). I can't wait to start traveling. This weekend I'm headed to surf camp and then the weekend after that is Cairns, then our field trip to Melbourne for a few days. Mary Grace and I decided to stick around for Labour Day weekend since its a school holiday here and travel is super expensive and we have a huge paper and presentation right afterwards. I'm actually pretty excited since we will get to explore Sydney and spend some time locally.
Here are a few more pictures and a video from my hike this weekend, enjoy!
